About Us

EMAC is a national, decentralized grassroots movement support institution anchored in county-based community organizing, systems strengthening, climate resilience, social justice, norm change, health and wellbeing, and sustainable economic empowerment. EMAC strengthens autonomous grassroots networks, youth groups, women-led initiatives, and community-led movements to build resilient, informed, organized, and economically empowered communities capable of influencing decisions and claiming their rights. Through movement building, strategic partnerships, innovation, advocacy, and technical support, EMAC advances sustainable community-led solutions that address social, economic, health, governance, and environmental challenges affecting historically underserved and structurally excluded populations.

2. Access to Justice

EMAC works to strengthen civic agency among grassroots communities by improving access to justice, legal support, human rights education, and redress mechanisms.

We support communities to understand and claim their rights while strengthening community-based prevention and response systems for violence and injustice.

Key Focus Areas

  • Legal Aid and Referrals: Connecting communities to legal support, justice institutions, and protection services to address rights violations, disputes, and discrimination.
  • Human Rights Education: Building community awareness on constitutional rights, freedoms, legal protections, and mechanisms for claiming justice and accountability.
  • SGBV Prevention and Response: Strengthening community systems for prevention, reporting, referrals, survivor support, and response to sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Community Paralegal Systems: Training grassroots paralegals to provide basic legal guidance, rights education, referrals, and community-based justice support services.
  • Civic Education: Empowering communities with knowledge on governance, public participation, constitutional processes, elections, and citizen responsibilities.
  • Community Accountability Systems: Promoting transparent, participatory, and community-led accountability mechanisms that strengthen responsive leadership and service delivery systems.

3. Health and Wellbeing

EMAC strengthens community systems for health promotion, disease prevention, treatment support, mental health, and psychosocial wellbeing through grassroots-led and community-centered approaches.

EMAC works with grassroots networks, peer-led groups, young people, and community structures to improve access to health information, strengthen health-seeking behaviors, promote rights-based health interventions, and enhance community resilience.

EMAC supports integrated community health programming focusing on HIV/STIs, SRHR, mental health, psychosocial support, wellness, and health systems linkages for historically underserved and structurally excluded populations.

  • HIV/STI Prevention and Treatment Literacy: Strengthening community awareness on HIV/STIs prevention, testing, treatment adherence, stigma reduction, and access to quality health services.
  • SRHR Education and Advocacy: Promoting sexual and reproductive health rights through education, advocacy, awareness creation, and community-centered rights-based interventions.
  • Mental Health and Psychosocial Support: Strengthening access to mental health information, counselling referrals, trauma support, and community-based psychosocial wellbeing services.
